R.M. of Rudy No. 284

The Rural Municipality of Rudy is on the South Saskatchewan River about eighty kilometers south and west of Saskatoon and thirty-two kilometers downstream from the Gardiner Dam on Lake Diefenbaker.  The Town of Outlook and the Villages of Broderick and Glenside are located within the RM. The municipality was incorporated in 1909 with it's first office being in Broderick. We relocated to Outlook in 1976 and then moved the office into the Outlook Town Office Building in 1996. In March of 2001, we became a Joint Administration Office with the Town of Outlook. An elected Council made up of a Reeve and six Councillors governs the RM. An Administrator provides office support to Council. A foreman and the equipment operators make up the workforce that looks after the outside duties in the R.M.

A large part of the municipal operations is building and maintaining roads. The RM of Rudy also helps provide fire and ambulance services and emergency measures. The R.M. helps with the operation of recreation facilities, regional parks and libraries. Community planning and zoning plus community promotion and industrial development are very key issues for the municipality.

The Rural Municipality of Rudy may be the most intensively irrigated municipality in Saskatchewan. Hay, potatoes, peas, beans, canola, sunflowers and safflowers are examples of crops successfully grown in the municipality under irrigation. Hay processed at a dehydration plant in the municipality is sold internationally as high quality animal feed. Large hog barns in the area provide a market for the feed grain grown under irrigation. Excellent dairy and beef herds represent the cattle industry in the municipality.

A skilled work force solidly supports the agriculture industry in the Rural Municipality of Rudy. Researchers at the Saskatchewan Irrigation Development Centre along with irrigation dealers, agriculture implement dealers, farm supply dealers and seed cleaning facilities provide further support and expertise for area producers.
