News Server Configuration for Outlet Internet
Outlet Internet users can now access Internet newsgroups. The address for the news server is
news.outlet.sk.ca
Here's how to configure some popular programs to read newsgroups:
- Netscape Navigator (Windows, Windows 95, or Macintosh) versions 2 and 3:
- Go to the Options menu
Choose Mail and News Preferences
Choose the Servers tab
Enter the news server address in the NNTP Server box
Click the OK button
- Netscape Communicator (Windows, Windows 95, or Macintosh) version 4:
- Go to the Edit menu
Choose Preferences
Choose Mail and Groups
Choose the Groups Server
Enter the news server address in the Discussion Groups (News) Server box
Click the OK button
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0
- Go to the View menu
Choose Options
Choose the News tab
Select "Use Internet Explorer to read Internet Newsgroups"
Enter the news server address in the News Server Address box
Enter your name and e-mail address information in the appropriate boxes
Click on the OK button
- Microsoft Internet News (part of Internet Explorer 3.0):
- Go to the News menu
Choose Options
Choose the Server tab
Click on the Add button
Enter the news server address in the News Server Name box
Click the Set as Default button
Click the OK button
You will be asked if you would like to choose which newsgroups to subscribe to. (You can do this now or later - it's up to you)
Click on the OK button
- Microsoft Outlook Express (part of Internet Explorer 4.0):
- Go to the Tools menu
Choose Accounts
Choose the News tab
Click on the Add button
Choose News...
Enter your real name and click Next
Enter your e-mail address and click Next
Enter the news server address in the News (NNTP) Server box
Enter a name for this account (for example, "Newsgroups") and click Next
Select your connection type (usually either phone line or dialer) and click Next
Click on Finish
Click on Close
